Lurker in The Lobby: The Guide To The Cinema of H. P. Lovecraft - Contents

Contents

Rather than an exhaustive compendium of all films with references to the Cthulhu Mythos of Lovecraft's creation, it is rather broken into two main sections. Part of the book compiles works from cinema, television and short films which are either based upon his original works and characters or draw heavily on the themes which suffuse his tales. The second section is of interviews with directors, screenwriters, actors et al. who create these films, with the book illustrated throughout with Lovecraftian imagery. Movies reviewed inside the book include more popular films such as In the Mouth of Madness, Alien, Hellboy, The Thing, the cult classic Re-Animator as well as more obscure Japanese works such as Marebito and Uzumaki, Italian gore films (The Beyond) and even comedies (Cast a Deadly Spell). Interviews include those with John Carpenter, Jeffrey Combs, Guillermo del Toro and Brian Yuzna. It is also noteworthy that as a Lovecraftian in-joke the name of the fictional writer of the Necronomicon, Abdul Alhazred, is included on the cover as co-author.

Famous quotes containing the word contents:

    If one reads a newspaper only for information, one does not learn the truth, not even the truth about the paper. The truth is that the newspaper is not a statement of contents but the contents themselves; and more than that, it is an instigator.
    Karl Kraus (1874–1936)

    The permanence of all books is fixed by no effort friendly or hostile, but by their own specific gravity, or the intrinsic importance of their contents to the constant mind of man.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

    To be, contents his natural desire;
    He asks no Angel’s wing, no Seraph’s fire;
    But thinks, admitted to that equal sky,
    His faithful dog shall bear him company.
    Alexander Pope (1688–1744)
