Lummus Park Historic District - Lummus Park in South Beach

Lummus Park in South Beach

There are two Lummus Parks located in Miami-Dade County:

The other "Lummus Park" in Miami-Dade, is on the Atlantic Ocean in South Beach. When redesigned and improved in the mid-1980s, it became the seed project for the redevelopment of what is now the Ocean Drive Deco District of SoBe (South Beach) from 5th to 15th Streets along Ocean Drive. The Miami Beach park initially became the location for many scenes from the television series "Miami Vice", and its 20' wide Deco inspired three colored sidewalk, now faded to natural concrete, was the North American homage to Brazilian Landscape Architect Roberto Burle Marx's oceanfront walk along Copacabana Beach near Rio de Janeiro. The Miami Beach park, and the Deco streetscape along Ocean Drive continues to be featured in "Miami" location shots for television and movies, and can be seen in recent episodes of the USA Network's "Burn Notice".

Famous quotes containing the words park, south and/or beach:

The park is filled with night and fog,
The veils are drawn about the world,
    Sara Teasdale (1884–1933)

History in the making is a very uncertain thing. It might be better to wait till the South American republic has got through with its twenty-fifth revolution before reading much about it. When it is over, some one whose business it is, will be sure to give you in a digested form all that it concerns you to know, and save you trouble, confusion, and time. If you will follow this plan, you will be surprised to find how new and fresh your interest in what you read will become.
    Anna C. Brackett (1836–1911)

A young person is a person with nothing to learn
One who already knows that ice does not chill and fire does not burn . . .
It knows it can spend six hours in the sun on its first
day at the beach without ending up a skinless beet,
And it knows it can walk barefoot through the barn
without running a nail in its feet. . . .
    Meanwhile psychologists grow rich
Writing that the young are ones’ should not
    undermine the self-confidence of which.
    Ogden Nash (1902–1971)
