As far as education is concerned there were almost 68 primary schools per lac of population while the corresponding figure for upper primary schools was around 26.6. Lucknow is one of the leading cities in India in terms of number of institutions including 7 universities, 1 technical universities and a large number of polytechnics, engineering institutes and industrial training institutes. Lucknow has several educational institutions viz. IIM Lucknow,RMLNLU-lucknow, Engineering University (recently ranked 15the fourth best university in Asia). Other research organisations in the state include Central Drug Research Institute, Industrial Technology Research Centre, Central Food Technological Research Institute, National Botanical Research Institute, Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute, Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences and King George Medical College.
