Lucia Bride of Sweden

Lucia Bride Of Sweden

National Lucia Bride of Sweden (in Swedish: Sveriges Lucia) is a competition for Swedish females. The contest is usually held in churches or in Skansen, an open air museum. Since 1973, the competition has been sponsored by the publications Ă…ret Runt and Stockholm City. The first competitions took place in the 1930s without sponsorship.

The National Lucia Bride of Sweden competition is held annually on December 13 (Saint Lucy's Day). One of the competition's traditions involves four contestants, two runner-ups and the winner singing Christmas carols on Christmas Day.

The contestant are primarily judged on their responses during an interview with the competition's judges and their ability to sing gospels and carols. Every contestant represents a Swedish charity organization.

Yvonne Ryding, titleholder of the 1983 contest, also took part in the Miss Sweden pageant and was subsequently crowned Miss Universe the following year.

On December 13, 2008, the 2007 titleholder, Emma Johansson, crowned the new winner.
