International Career

Barrios started his dual citizenship process on 16 March 2010 hoping to get a chance to be in the World Cup 2010 which was granted on 8 April. He is the fourth Argentine to join the Paraguay National team along with Jonathan Santana, Néstor Ortigoza and Sergio Aquino. On 4 May 2010, Barrios was called up by trainer Gerardo "Tata" Martino" to join the Paraguay national football team training camp for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Los Guaraníes played five games in the tournament, only bowing out in the quarterfinals to eventual winner Spain. Barrios was brought on in immediate response to a goal by Spain's David Villa, but only in the 83rd minute, with Barrio getting one shot off on goal in the 89th. In 2011, he was runner-up in the Copa Amèrica with the Paraguayan national team. He has put in 21 appearances for Paraguay, most recently scoring a goal in a draw against Venezuela.

After tearing a muscle in the final of the Copa Amèrica, he was unavailable until mid-September.
