Famous quotes containing the words lucan, community and/or college:

Among those who share a throne there can be no loyalty; Dominion’s ever impatient consort.
    —Marcus Annaeus Lucan (39–65)

The most perfect political community must be amongst those who are in the middle rank, and those states are best instituted wherein these are a larger and more respectable part, if possible, than both the other; or, if that cannot be, at least than either of them separate, so that being thrown into the balance it may prevent either scale from preponderating.
    Aristotle (384–322 B.C.)

Jerry: She’s one of those third-year girls that gripe my liver.
    Milo: Third-year girls?
Jerry: Yeah, you know, American college kids. They come over here to take their third year and lap up a little culture. They give me a swift pain.
    Milo: Why?
Jerry: They’re officious and dull. They’re always making profound observations they’ve overheard.
    Alan Jay Lerner (1918–1986)
