Low Moor Railway Station - Re-opening Plans

Re-opening Plans

Metro had long-term plans to re-open the station by 2012. Originally, lack of capacity in the existing Caldervale Line timetable meant that the station was put on hold, but this was addressed with a new timetable introduced in December 2009 and trackwork improvements at Mill Hill Junction outside of Bradford. However this has now been put back until into 2015 with Metro saying that the additional delay is due to the extra expense incurred from changes in engineering safety requirements for building platforms on a curve.

It was announced in June 2009 that £5.5 million funding was allocated for the station and that a detailed design plan and business case would be developed. There were completed in May 2010, confirming the stations location on Cleckheaton Road (Off New Works Road).

When completed the station will provide:

  • Two trains an hour in both directions
  • 100 space Park & Ride with dedicated Blue Badge Holder spaces
  • CCTV
  • Accessible platforms
  • Passenger information displays and public address system
  • Waiting shelters
  • Direct access to the Spen Valley Greenway

Following the general election in May 2010 and the Comprehensive Spending Review announcement in Autumn 2010 a further assessment of the West Yorkshire Strategic Programme of Schemes confirmed that the new station at Low Moor remained a key priority within the transport aspirations of West Yorkshire.

Public consultation for the scheme was held 18 and 19 November 2011.

Famous quotes containing the word plans:

We for a certainty are not the first
Have sat in taverns while the tempest hurled
Their hopeful plans to emptiness, and cursed
Whatever brute and blackguard made the world.
