Long-thumbed Frog - Physical Description

Physical Description

The Long-thumbed Frog is a medium sized frog reaching about 50 mm in length. It is grey or brown with abnormal shaped darker patches or irregular spots, and in most individuals a butterfly-shaped patch between the eyes. There is normally a red or purplish patch above the eye. It is similar in many respects to the Spotted Grass Frog (Limnodynastes tasmaniensis) from which it can be distinguished by the larger irregular shaped blotches. The belly is white. The tympanum is indistinct. It usually is 30 - 60mm in size.

Famous quotes containing the words physical and/or description:

The struggle for existence holds as much in the intellectual as in the physical world. A theory is a species of thinking, and its right to exist is coextensive with its power of resisting extinction by its rivals.
    Thomas Henry Huxley (1825–95)

I was here first introduced to Joe.... He was a good-looking Indian, twenty-four years old, apparently of unmixed blood, short and stout, with a broad face and reddish complexion, and eyes, methinks, narrower and more turned up at the outer corners than ours, answering to the description of his race. Besides his underclothing, he wore a red flannel shirt, woolen pants, and a black Kossuth hat, the ordinary dress of the lumberman, and, to a considerable extent, of the Penobscot Indian.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
