Lolly Pop - Biography

Biography

The grand-daughter of Storz Broadcasting program director and Top 40 radio personality Jim "Grahame Crackers" Richards, Aldridge was raised between the continental United States and Zimbabwe, Africa. During 1994, Aldridge left Harare for Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, where she received breaks as a backing vocalist for CXR, Jazz-Noise-Improv group Brown Rainbow and fronted the band Burning Shakespeare. While designing banners for Adam Ant bassist Chris De Niro, she had a stint as a dancer for the Lords of Acid, recorded with members of The Suburbs and appeared in the Prince & NPG "Get Wild" video. Following a studio internship with NPG keyboardist Morris Hayes, she studied music business as a Twin/Tone Records intern. Post Twin/Tone, Aldridge adopted the stage moniker Lolly Pop and formed Electroclash trio TELEPHONE.

In 2004, Pop debuted as a demo singer for Doctor Fink and toured the East Coast to promote the TC Electropunk compilation series TELEPHONE! appeared on. During 2005, Lolly Pop & The Couture Club emerged. With help from John Matthews, Monte Moir, Fink as well as author Matthew Chojnacki, the comedic art-house act pressed their first release in 2006. The Glamorous '06 tour- which starred Moir as band leader in an "Electro Pop Operetta"- opened with a warm-up in Milwaukee, WI on November 14. A retro-now nod to Adam Ant and Sheila E., the tour was built upon Pop 's eponymous album- a Cinderella-esque story arc with a cast of charectures. The tour moved to Cleveland, OH, Boston, MA, New York, NY, Indianapolis, IN, and closed in Minneapolis. In February 2007, her freshman LP was re-issued by U.K. label Modo Disco featuring the maxi-single lead off Elevator Operator. Following a video remix by VJ Danny Morris and distribution by Rockamerica, the song infiltrated DJ decks at WMC. Elevator Operator also surfaced on the soundtrack of the 2007 film Loveless in Los Angeles.

In 2009, Pop/Aldridge penned Looking 4 The KLF, then assembled Synthpop act POP INC with Matthews and assorted guests. Featuring a cameo from BBC actor Simon Jones and endorsed by KLF Communications, POP INC released Looking 4 The KLF independently June 23, 2009. Thanks to Billboard reporting DJ Ron Slomowicz, the Ricardo Autobahn remix earned 'Song Of The Day' on DanceMusicAbout.com. An early version of the video- also edited by Danny Morris- was picked up by Promo Only, Rockamerica, as well England's NME. Shortly after, Looking 4 The KLF hit #5 on the UK's WMR chart and was re-released on the Ninthwave Records compilation Synthetic Dance Music Volume Two. POP INC most recently launched the video-single Boulevard of Broken Dreams and have teamed up with Trans-X to finish their freshman LP, due Spring 2013.

While Lolly Pop last appeared on KSTP/ABC TV, Brooke Aldridge currently fronts POP INC and supplies vocals for various projects by The Cuban Boys, Johnny Normal, Avenpitch, SIRPAUL, Oni Sakti and more.
