Local Government (Scotland) Act 1929 - United Burghs

United Burghs

The Act united a number of adjacent burghs under a single town council (listed in Schedule 2):

  • Kilrenny, Anstruther Easter and Anstruther Wester
  • Elie, Liberty & Williamsburgh and Earlsferry
  • Bonnyrigg and Lasswade
  • Blairgowrie and Rattray
  • Kirkcaldy and Dysart

Where any of the merging towns was a royal burgh this status was to be continued in the united burgh.

Famous quotes containing the word united:

It is said that the British Empire is very large and respectable, and that the United States are a first-rate power. We do not believe that a tide rises and falls behind every man which can float the British Empire like a chip, if he should ever harbor it in his mind.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
