On July 1, 1968 the Oklahoma State Board of Vocational and Technical Education was established as a separate entity from the State Department of Education. On May 19, 2000, Governor of Oklahoma Frank Keating signed House Bill 2128 which officially and immediately changed its name to the Department of Career and Technology Education.
