Vice Presidents During The Second Republic

Some websites incorrectly recognize the following as Vice-Presidents of the Philippines however they are not officially recognized by the Philippine Government:

  • Ramón Avanceña, October 14, 1943-February 2, 1944 (Served during the Japanese Occupation under President José P. Laurel)
  • Benigno Aquino, Sr., February 2, 1944-August 17, 1945 (Served during the Japanese Occupation under President José P. Laurel)

Note that the two served in the 1943 constitution that did not provide for a vice president of the country; instead, the two are vice presidents of National Assembly or of the parliament.

Famous quotes containing the words vice, presidents and/or republic:

The extremes of vice and virtue are alike detestable; absolute virtue is as sure to kill a man as absolute vice is, let alone the dullnesses of it and the pomposities of it.
    Samuel Butler (1835–1902)

A president, however, must stand somewhat apart, as all great presidents have known instinctively. Then the language which has the power to survive its own utterance is the most likely to move those to whom it is immediately spoken.
    J.R. Pole (b. 1922)

Paper is cheap, and authors need not now erase one book before they write another. Instead of cultivating the earth for wheat and potatoes, they cultivate literature, and fill a place in the Republic of Letters. Or they would fain write for fame merely, as others actually raise crops of grain to be distilled into brandy.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
