List of The Mortal Instruments Characters - Magnus Bane - Family

Family

Magnus' parents feared him even when he was a child. It is revealed that his mother was tricked into sleeping with a demon and when she realized what he was, hung herself in a barn. His mother was half Dutch and half Indonesian, explaining Magnus' Asian features. His step-father was later driven into an attempt to drown him, and Magnus burned him where he stood. He was then brought up by Churchmen. Cassandra Clare revealed in her Twitter that Magnus was born on what was once the Dutch East Indies. Camille does state in City of Lost Souls that his father is a Prince of Hell and is implied to be a high ranking demon. Whenever asked who his father is, Magnus always avoids the question or changes the subject.

remembering this thing are remembering that family
living living can go on existing. Very many are quite

    Gertrude Stein (1874–1946)

Views of women, on one side, as inwardly directed toward home and family and notions of men, on the other, as outwardly striving toward fame and fortune have resounded throughout literature and in the texts of history, biology, and psychology until they seem uncontestable. Such dichotomous views defy the complexities of individuals and stifle the potential for people to reveal different dimensions of themselves in various settings.
    Sara Lawrence Lightfoot (20th century)

In the family sandwich, the older people and the younger ones can recognize one another as the bread. Those in the middle are, for a time, the meat.
    Anna Quindlen (b. 1952)
