List of The Demonata Characters - The Shadow

The Shadow

The Shadow is an entity who serves as the main antagonist. It is the main entity controlling the demons. It is described as resembling a massive octopus with many snake-like tentacles, patched together with black shadows. This 'octopus' has no face but can still 'see'. When humans touch the tentacles, it burns and cuts through their flesh. All of the Demonata bow down to it, even Lord Loss. Despite its immense power, it still needs the Demonata to back it up, showing that it may believe it can completely eradicate humanity with the help of the demons. It is stated that The Shadow is actually Death. It cannot live in a world without magic, so it resides in the Demonata's Universe In one book the Narrators and friends go in to the shadow via Kernel's windows and set free the souls it had captures (including Beranabus's) thus temporally destroying its body. It later is revived and combines itself with Bec. It seems Bec cannot control herself any longer, but it is revealed that it was part of a plan she and Beranabus came up with to out smart Death.

Famous quotes containing the word shadow:

We saw one schoolhouse in our walk, and listened to the sounds which issued from it; but it appeared like a place where the process, not of enlightening, but of obfuscating the mind was going on, and the pupils received only so much light as could penetrate the shadow of the Catholic Church.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

After Buddha was dead, his shadow was still shown for centuries in a cave—a tremendous, gruesome shadow. God is dead; but given the way of man, there may still be caves for thousands of years in which his shadow will be shown.—And we—we still have to vanquish his shadow, too.
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)
