The city of Milwaukee is home to 149 high rises that stand taller than 115 feet. The tallest building in Milwaukee, and Wisconsin, is the 42-story, 601-foot-tall (183 m) U.S. Bank Center which was completed in 1973. The second tallest is the 37-story, 549-foot-tall (167 m) 100 East Wisconsin Ave. building, completed in 1989. For nearly eighty years, from 1895 to 1973, the Milwaukee City Hall dominated the skyline, and was at the time of it's completion, the tallest habitable building in the United States.The city experienced a building boom in the mid to late 1980's. Five of the ten tallest buildings in the city were constructed between 1985 and 1991.
Currently, there are two proposed skyscrapers that will stand in excess of 500 feet, the 44 story Couture, and the 33 story Northwestern Mutual Tower.
