Miles "Tails" Prower is an anthropomorphic fox who often plays the role of Sonic's sidekick. The name "Miles Prower" is a pun on "miles per hour". He was created for the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 video game, and then subsequently used in majority of Sonic media. His nickname "Tails" comes from his two tails, which he uses to help him fly. He looks up to Sonic as a hero, and loves to support him in his adventures. Tails is also known for his mechanical ability, building things such as airplanes or submarines to aid the Freedom Fighters.
A recurring theme in the earlier comics revolved around Tails occasionally resenting being seen as the baby of the group due to his younger age. Despite this initial "little brother" treatment from the rest of the heroes, Tails matures throughout the comic, and even embarks on solo adventures without Sonic's aid.
Tails' father, Amadeus Prower, and mother, Rosemary Prower, are not present in the earlier issues of the comic, due to their disappearance after Robotnik's takeover. However, in later issues, they are discovered and rescued, being parental figures instead of the Freedom Fighters. Tails also has an uncle, named Merlin, who is a strong wizard and member of the Ancient Walkers.
