List of Places in The Isle of Man

This is a list of places in the Isle of Man. In addition to the Isle of Man itself, the Isle of Man Government administers three small neighbouring islands: the Calf of Man, St Patrick's Isle and St Michael's Isle. There are four places with official status as towns, and three villages, as well as many other smaller settlements. The Island is split up into six sheadings, then further into seventeen parishes.

Manx language names are given in italics.

Famous quotes containing the words list of, list, places, isle and/or man:

    Shea—they call him Scholar Jack—
Went down the list of the dead.
    Officers, seamen, gunners, marines,
The crews of the gig and yawl,
The bearded man and the lad in his teens,
    Carpenters, coal-passers—all.
    Joseph I. C. Clarke (1846–1925)

I made a list of things I have
    to remember and a list
of things I want to forget,
but I see they are the same list.
    Linda Pastan (b. 1932)

Schools and schoolmasters, as we have them today, are not popular as places of education and teachers, but rather prisons and turnkeys in which children are kept to prevent them disturbing and chaperoning their parents.
    George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)

    She carries in the dishes,
And lays them in a row.
To an isle in the water
    With her would I go.
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)

—The man who has stood on the Acropolis,
And looked down over Attica; or he
Who has sailed where picturesque Constantinople is,
Or seen Timbuctoo, or hath taken tea
    In small-eyed China’s crockery-ware metropolis,
Or sat amidst the bricks of Nineveh,
May not think much of London’s first appearance—
But ask him what he thinks of it a year hence!
    George Gordon Noel Byron (1788–1824)
