South Africa
The majority of retail pharmacies are independently-owned pharmacies.
Recent legislative reform has opened pharmacy ownership in South Africa to individuals and companies other than pharmacists, for example supermarket chains. However, in order to retain professionalism, pharmacists must still own a significant percentage of the pharmacy and operate these pharmacies in person.
South Africa also has active Pharmaceutical Society of Southern Africa and South African Association of Hospital and Institutional Pharmacists membership organisations.

Famous quotes containing the words south and/or africa:
“We have heard all of our lives how, after the Civil War was over, the South went back to straighten itself out and make a living again. It was for many years a voiceless part of the government. The balance of power moved away from itto the north and the east. The problems of the north and the east became the big problem of the country and nobody paid much attention to the economic unbalance the South had left as its only choice.”
—Lyndon Baines Johnson (19081973)
“Everywhereall over Africa and South America ... you see these suburbs springing up. They represent the optimum of what people want. Theres a certain sort of logic leading towards these immaculate suburbs. And theyre terrifying, because they are the death of the soul.... This is the prison this planet is being turned into.”
—J.G. (James Graham)
