State Motto

Adopted in 1959, the Ohio motto, With God, all things are possible, is a quotation taken from Matthew, 19:26. Famous quotes containing the words state and/or motto:

Irish? In truth I would not want to be anything else. It is a state of mind as well as an actual country. It is being at odds with other nationalities, having quite different philosophy about pleasure, about punishment, about life, and about death. At least it does not leave one pusillanimous.
    Edna O’Brien (b. c. 1932)

Ex oriente lux may still be the motto of scholars, for the Western world has not yet derived from the East all the light which it is destined to receive thence.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
