List of Monkey Dust Characters - Series Two - People On The Toilet

People On The Toilet

Proposed by the television controller at the beginning of season 2, "People on the Toilet" is a reality TV show frequently seen or referred to throughout season 2, in which cameras film contestants sitting on the toilet 24 hours a day. Elaine, being the most popular (and seemingly only) contestant quickly becomes a huge, almost god-like media celebrity, being bestowed such honours as carrying the Olympic torch on the final leg of its journey (Her exploits are often heard on the news during Clive Pringle's walk home) The show achieved viewing figures of 120 million, meaning the entire population of the UK watched it twice. Abdul and Shafiq also mention a celebrity version featuring Su Pollard.

Famous quotes containing the words people and/or toilet:

Wherever there’s a fight so hungry people can eat, I’ll be there. Wherever there’s a cop beating up a guy, I’ll be there. I’ll be in the way guys yell when they’re mad. I’ll be in the way kids laugh when they’re hungry and they know supper’s ready. And when the people eat the stuff they raise, and living in the houses they build, I’ll be there, too.
    Nunnally Johnson (1897–1977)

    When a daughter tries suicide
and the chimney falls down like a drunk
and the dog chews her tail off
and the kitchen blows up its shiny kettle
and the vacuum cleaner swallows its bag
and the toilet washes itself in tears ...
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)
