List of Minor Blackadder Characters - The Jumping Jews of Jerusalem

The Jumping Jews of Jerusalem

An unentertaining act hired by Prince Edmund for the St Leonard's Day celebrations at the Royal court due to his inability to book any proper entertainments. It consisted solely of several Jewish males jumping for several minutes. The lead Jew was played by Angus Deayton, most famous for presenting the topical news quiz Have I Got News for You.

In the unaired pilot episode they were originally called the jumping Jesuits. This was probably changed because the Jesuit order was founded in 1540 while the first Blackadder series take place in the early 15th century.("Born to be King")

Famous quotes containing the words jumping, jews and/or jerusalem:

    Everything seems beautiful because you don’t understand. Those flying fish, they’re not leaping for joy, they’re jumping in terror. Bigger fish want to eat them. That luminous water, it takes its gleam from millions of tiny dead bodies, the glitter of putrescence. There’s no beauty here, only death and decay.
    Curtis Siodmak (1902–1988)

    Seventy-five million Jews deported or murdered, that’s cleansing. I admire such thoroughness, such methodical patience! When one has no character, one must have a method.
    Albert Camus (1913–1960)

    Comfort, comfort ye my people, speak ye peace, thus saith our God;
    comfort those who sit in darkness mourning ‘neath their sorrows’ load.
    Speak ye to Jerusalem of the peace that waits for them;
    tell her that her sins I cover, and her warfare now is over.
    Johann G. Olearius (1611–1684)
