Colonial (16th Century-1821) and Mexican (1821-1836) San Antonio
The Mayors of colonial San Antonio renewed the charge each year, although there were some exceptions: Thus, some mayors, such as José Curbelo, Ignacio Lopez de Armas and Jose Felix Menchaca, held office several times. Juan Leal Goraz was the first Mayor of San Antonio, after the foundation of the city in March 9, 1731.

Famous quotes containing the words colonial, mexican, san and/or antonio:
“Are you there, Africa with the bulging chest and oblong thigh? Sulking Africa, wrought of iron, in the fire, Africa of the millions of royal slaves, deported Africa, drifting continent, are you there? Slowly you vanish, you withdraw into the past, into the tales of castaways, colonial museums, the works of scholars.”
—Jean Genet (19101986)
“The germ of violence is laid bare in the child abuser by the sheer accident of his individual experience ... in a word, to a greater degree than we like to admit, we are all potential child abusers.”
—F. Gonzalez-Crussi, Mexican professor of pathology, author. Reflections on Child Abuse, Notes of an Anatomist (1985)
“We had won. Pimps got out of their polished cars and walked the streets of San Francisco only a little uneasy at the unusual exercise. Gamblers, ignoring their sensitive fingers, shook hands with shoeshine boys.... Beauticians spoke to the shipyard workers, who in turn spoke to the easy ladies.... I thought if war did not include killing, Id like to see one every year. Something like a festival.”
—Maya Angelou (b. 1928)
“Socialism can only arrive by bicycle.”
—José Antonio Viera Gallo (b. 1943)
