List Of Lakes In France

The following list of lakes in France roughly distinguishes three categories: the mountain lakes, sorted by massif – and further sorted by départements, the lakes in plains, sorted by river basin, and the coastal lakes.

Lake Geneva (Lac Léman), the largest in western Europe with 582 km², partly in France, partly in Switzerland, is listed in Haute-Savoie for its French part.

Famous quotes containing the words list of, list, lakes and/or france:

The advice of their elders to young men is very apt to be as unreal as a list of the hundred best books.
    Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. (1841–1935)

    Lovers, forget your love,
And list to the love of these,
    She a window flower,
    And he a winter breeze.
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)

What is most striking in the Maine wilderness is the continuousness of the forest, with fewer open intervals or glades than you had imagined. Except the few burnt lands, the narrow intervals on the rivers, the bare tops of the high mountains, and the lakes and streams, the forest is uninterrupted.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

The bugle-call to arms again sounded in my war-trained ear, the bayonets gleamed, the sabres clashed, and the Prussian helmets and the eagles of France stood face to face on the borders of the Rhine.... I remembered our own armies, my own war-stricken country and its dead, its widows and orphans, and it nerved me to action for which the physical strength had long ceased to exist, and on the borrowed force of love and memory, I strove with might and main.
    Clara Barton (1821–1912)
