List Of Hong Kong ODI Cricketers

A One Day International (ODI) is an international cricket match between two representative teams, each having ODI status, as determined by the International Cricket Council (ICC). A ODI differs from Test matches in that the number of overs per team is limited, and that each team has only one innings. Twenty players have represented the Hong Kong cricket team in ODIs from 2004 to 2008.

The Hong Kong Cricket Association was formed in 1968, replacing the Hong Kong Cricket League, and they were admitted to the ICC as an associate member the following year. Hong Kong have never gained ODI status in their own right, but have been accorded ODI status twice on a temporary basis for participation in the Asia Cup, in which the matches played held ODI status. Hong Kong played its first ODI against Bangladesh in the 2004 Asia Cup, with the team playing a further ODI in that competition against Pakistan. Their next appearances in ODIs came four years later in the 2008 Asia Cup, with Hong Kong playing two matches against Pakistan and India. Hong Kong struggled against their Test playing opponents, losing heavily in all their ODIs, including a 256 run defeat to India at National Stadium, Karachi. Hong Kong are yet to achieve temporary ODI status through the World Cricket League, though they have qualified for the 2013 World Cup Qualifier, where qualification for the 2015 World Cup would see Hong Kong gain ODI status for the tournament.

Hong Kong played four ODIs, with three players representing the territory in all their matches in this format: Afzaal Haider, Najeeb Amar and Tabarak Dar. Of those who have appeared, Dar has scored more runs than any other player with 101. Three players have each taken four wickets; among these Ilyas Gul has the best bowling average of 28.25. Three players have acted as wicket-keeper, with Tim Smart and Nasir Hameed wicket-keeping in one match each in 2004 and James Atkinson in two matches in 2008. Two players have captained Hong Kong: Rahul Sharma and Tabarak Dar. Sharma captained the team in their two matches in the 2004 Asia Cup and Dar captained the team in their two matches in the 2008 Asia Cup.

This list includes all players who have played at least one ODI match and is initially arranged in the order of debut appearance. Where more than one player won their first cap in the same match, those players are initially listed alphabetically at the time of debut.

Famous quotes containing the words list of and/or list:

Do your children view themselves as successes or failures? Are they being encouraged to be inquisitive or passive? Are they afraid to challenge authority and to question assumptions? Do they feel comfortable adapting to change? Are they easily discouraged if they cannot arrive at a solution to a problem? The answers to those questions will give you a better appraisal of their education than any list of courses, grades, or test scores.
    Lawrence Kutner (20th century)

    Lastly, his tomb
Shall list and founder in the troughs of grass
And none shall speak his name.
    Karl Shapiro (b. 1913)
