List Of F.C. Porto Seasons

F.C. Porto is a Portuguese professional association football club based in Porto, that competes in the Primeira Liga, the top-tier football league in Portugal. It was formed in 1893 as Foot-ball Club do Porto but only in 1906 it became an active and fully fledged football club.

The club's first competitive matches were played in 1910–11, in the Taça José Monteiro da Costa, a tournament between clubs from the north of Portugal (also known as North of Portugal Championship). In August 1912, Porto was a co-founder of the Porto Football Association, which became responsible for organizing the regional championship. In the 1921–22 season, the Campeonato de Portugal was created as the first nationwide competition, with the purpose of determining the Portuguese national champion from among the several regional champions. In 1938–39, after four experimental seasons, the Primeira Liga was officially established as the national championship, replacing the Campeonato de Portugal, which was in turn converted into the Taça de Portugal, the main domestic cup. As one of its founding members, Porto is also one of three clubs (along with Benfica and Sporting) never to have been relegated from the top division of Portuguese football.

Between 1911 and 1938, Porto won five editions of the Taça José Monteiro da Costa, 22 regional championships (of which 20 were won consecutively since 1918–19), and four Campeonato de Portugal titles (including the inaugural season). Porto had won the first unofficial edition of the Primeira Liga in 1934–35, and repeated that feat officially in 1938–39. The club renewed the national title in the following season, but had to wait 16 years until winning the league again in the 1955–56 season. After a fourth league win in 1959, the club endured another 19 years without winning the championship, which included an all-time club low 9th place in the 1969–70 league. Since incumbent president Pinto da Costa took office in 1982, Porto have experienced routine success in the Primeira Liga, winning it 19 times out of 30 – five of them in succession (1995–1999), a first in Portuguese football. They achieved their first double of league and cup in 1956 and repeated it six more times (1988, 1998, 2003, 2006, 2009, 2011).

Porto first participated in the European competitions in the 1956–57 season, when it competed in the second edition of the European Cup. The club reached its first European final in 1984, but the maiden European title was achieved three years later at the 1986–87 European Cup. The next season, Porto collected the UEFA Super Cup and Intercontinental Cup, and in 2002–03 they won their first UEFA Cup, becoming the only Portuguese club to have won these three international trophies.

As of 2012, the club has won 71 senior football titles (64 domestic and 7 international): 26 Primeira Liga championships, 16 Taça de Portugal (plus 4 editions of the defunct Campeonato de Portugal), 18 Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira (record holder), 2 European Cup, 2 UEFA Cup, 1 UEFA Super Cup and 2 Intercontinental Cup.
