List of Death Note Characters

This is a list of fictional characters in the manga and anime series Death Note. The character names are listed in Western order, with the given name before the family name.

The writer, Tsugumi Ohba, developed the basic character traits while Takeshi Obata, the artist, created the visual character designs.

In his stories, Ohba chose character names that "seemed real but could not exist in the real world" because most of the characters were criminals and victims.

Famous quotes containing the words list of, list, death, note and/or characters:

    A man’s interest in a single bluebird is worth more than a complete but dry list of the fauna and flora of a town.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

    I made a list of things I have
    to remember and a list
    of things I want to forget,
    but I see they are the same list.
    Linda Pastan (b. 1932)

    Two graves must hide thine and my corse;
    If one might, death were no divorce.
    John Donne (1572–1631)

    In it he proves that all things are true and states how the truths of all contradictions may be reconciled physically, such as for example that white is black and black is white; that one can be and not be at the same time; that there can be hills without valleys; that nothingness is something and that everything, which is, is not. But take note that he proves all these unheard-of paradoxes without any fallacious or sophistical reasoning.
    Savinien Cyrano De Bergerac (1619–1655)

    For the most part, only the light characters travel. Who are you that have no task to keep you at home?
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
