List Of Countries By Military Expenditures

This article is a list of countries by military expenditure, the amount spent by a nation on its military in a given year. Military expenditure figures are presented in US$ based on either constant or current exchange rates. These results can vary greatly from one year to another based on fluctuations in the exchange rates of each country's currency. Such fluctuations may change a country's ranking from one year to the next. Currently, the world's five largest military spenders are the United States, China, Russia, the United Kingdom and France, all of whom are recognized as world powers, and are all veto-wielding permanent members of the United Nations Security Council.

The first list is based on the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) Yearbook 2012 which includes a list on the world's top 15 military spenders in 2011, based on current market exchange rates. The second list is based on the SIPRI military expenditure database for the year 2011 (in constant 2010 US$).

Famous quotes containing the words list of, list, countries and/or military:

A man’s interest in a single bluebird is worth more than a complete but dry list of the fauna and flora of a town.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

    Lastly, his tomb
Shall list and founder in the troughs of grass
And none shall speak his name.
    Karl Shapiro (b. 1913)

Americans living in Latin American countries are often more snobbish than the Latins themselves. The typical American has quite a bit of money by Latin American standards, and he rarely sees a countryman who doesn’t. An American businessman who would think nothing of being seen in a sport shirt on the streets of his home town will be shocked and offended at a suggestion that he appear in Rio de Janeiro, for instance, in anything but a coat and tie.
    Hunter S. Thompson (b. 1939)

In all sincerity, we offer to the loved ones of all innocent victims over the past 25 years, abject and true remorse. No words of ours will compensate for the intolerable suffering they have undergone during the conflict.
