Holly Grimshaw first appears on Christmas Day 2006 when her mother Emma dumps her on Jason Grimshaw claiming that he is her father, the product of a one night stand. Jason's mother Eileen bonds with the baby who they name Holly because of the day she arrived, Jason then bonds with her too and enjoys being a father and a family with his fiancee Sarah Platt and her daughter Bethany.
When Charlie Stubbs is murdered in January 2007, Jason is upset as he has lost one of his closest friends. The trial of his murderer Tracy Barlow reaches the newspapers and Holly's mother Emma hears about it and realises that the man who is Holly's father is in fact Charlie and he had given Jason's name instead. She returns to re-claim Holly but Eileen refuses and threatens a custody battle. However, she hands her over on 25 April 2007. Shortly after she leaves, her half-sibling is born (child of Shelley Unwin and Charlie).

Famous quotes containing the word holly:
“and the oxen near
The worn foundations of their resting-place,
The holy manger where their bed is corn
And holly torn for Christmas. If they die,
As Jesus, in the harness, who will mourn?
Lamb of the shepherds, Child, how still you lie.”
—Robert Lowell (19171977)
