1910s

  • Taha Hussein (1889–1973) was born in Izbit il-Kilo, Egypt. In 1914 he became the first person to graduate from Cairo University. Later he was the first Egyptian Dean of the Faculty of the Arts there and the first Egyptian to be nominated for a Nobel Prize in literature. He was also Minister of Education. He was blind from early childhood.
