List of Cable Internet Providers - Europe - United Kingdom

United Kingdom

  • Virgin Media is the largest and sole Cable Internet provider in the majority of the United Kingdom, rebranded from a previous merger between two formerly separate cable companies, NTL and Telewest. As most of the smaller cable companies that laid fibre optic cable around 70% of the UK were bought by NTL & Telewest, later merging to form Virgin Media. They have an unbreakable monopoly on the fibre optic cable network. Since May 2007, their premium package (XXL) offers download speeds of up to 50 megabits per second, with upload speeds of 5 megabits per second. Virgin is currently testing a new service offering up to 200 megabits per second in download speeds.

Famous quotes containing the words united and/or kingdom:

Next to the right of liberty, the right of property is the most important individual right guaranteed by the Constitution and the one which, united with that of personal liberty, has contributed more to the growth of civilization than any other institution established by the human race.
    William Howard Taft (1857–1930)

Illness is the night-side of life, a more onerous citizenship. Everyone who is born holds dual citizenship, in the kingdom of the well and in the kingdom of the sick. Although we all prefer to use only the good passport, sooner or later each of us is obliged, at least for a spell, to identify ourselves as citizens of that other place.
    Susan Sontag (b. 1933)
