Famous quotes containing the word swallows:
“Work—work—work,
In the dull December light,
And work—work—work,
When the weather is warm and bright—
While underneath the eaves
The brooding swallows cling
As if to show me their sunny backs
And twit me with the spring.”
—Thomas Hood (1799–1845)
“At a wavering instant the swallows gave way to bats
By the Ponte Vecchio . . .
Changing guard.”
—D.H. (David Herbert)
“we stand on the shore
loving its pulse
as it swallows the stars,
and has since it all began
and will continue into oblivion,
past our knowing....”
—Anne Sexton (1928–1974)
