Hummingbirds

Hummingbirds are small birds capable of hovering in mid-air due to the rapid flapping of their wings. They are the only birds that can fly backwards. In Connecticut, three species have been recorded.
- Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Archilochus colubris
- Calliope Hummingbird, Selasphorus calliope (R)
- Rufous Hummingbird, Selasphorus rufus
