List Of Atlanta Falcons Head Coaches
The Atlanta Falcons are an American football team based in Atlanta, Georgia. They are members of the South division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL). The Falcons joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1966 and have compiled an all-time record of 312–402–6 in the regular season with a 6–11 record in the playoffs and division championships in 1980, 1998, 2004, 2010, and 2012 along with an appearance in Super Bowl XXXIII in Miami, Florida.
There have been 15 head coaches for the Falcons franchise, 11 serving full-time. Current head coach Mike Smith is the winningest coach in Falcons history by both winning percentage and total games won with a 56–24 regular season record (.700 winning percentage) in his tenure as head coach. Under Smith's leadership, the team attained consecutive winning seasons (11–5 in 2008 and 9–7 in 2009), consecutive playoff appearances (2010 and 2011), and consecutive seasons with 10 wins or more (also in 2010 and 2011) for the first time in its history. Also, Smith is the only Falcons coach to win 2 divisional titles (NFC South, 2010 and 2012). Statistically, Jim Hanifan, who has won no games, holds the poorest coaching record. However, Norb Hecker, who has coached thirty games as full-time head coach, won only four.
Five coaches have led the Falcons into the playoffs: Leeman Bennett, Jerry Glanville, Dan Reeves, Jim L. Mora, and Mike Smith. Since the team's debut in 1966, the Falcons have not won a Super Bowl.

Famous quotes containing the words list of, list, falcons, head and/or coaches:
“Every morning I woke in dread, waiting for the day nurse to go on her rounds and announce from the list of names in her hand whether or not I was for shock treatment, the new and fashionable means of quieting people and of making them realize that orders are to be obeyed and floors are to be polished without anyone protesting and faces are to be made to be fixed into smiles and weeping is a crime.”
—Janet Frame (b. 1924)
“I am opposed to writing about the private lives of living authors and psychoanalyzing them while they are alive. Criticism is getting all mixed up with a combination of the Junior F.B.I.- men, discards from Freud and Jung and a sort of Columnist peep- hole and missing laundry list school.... Every young English professor sees gold in them dirty sheets now. Imagine what they can do with the soiled sheets of four legal beds by the same writer and you can see why their tongues are slavering.”
—Ernest Hemingway (18991961)
“Thus piteously Love closed what he begat:
The union of this ever-diverse pair!
These two were rapid falcons in a snare,
Condemned to do the flitting of the bat.”
—George Meredith (18281909)
“Your head was
radiant in its emptiness,
a small clean room.”
—Denise Levertov (b. 1923)
“The real persuaders are our appetites, our fears and above all our vanity. The skillful propagandist stirs and coaches these internal persuaders.”
—Eric Hoffer (19021983)
