The following is a list of some assassinations and assassination attempts. It is not intended to be exhaustive. For this article an assassination is defined as a murder (a usually prominent person) by sudden or secret attack often for political reasons. It should not include bona fide military operations or murder for hire. Purges (such as the Night of the Long Knives) are also not included.
