Famous quotes containing the words list of, list, actors, played, multiple, roles and/or film:

Every morning I woke in dread, waiting for the day nurse to go on her rounds and announce from the list of names in her hand whether or not I was for shock treatment, the new and fashionable means of quieting people and of making them realize that orders are to be obeyed and floors are to be polished without anyone protesting and faces are to be made to be fixed into smiles and weeping is a crime.
    Janet Frame (b. 1924)

The advice of their elders to young men is very apt to be as unreal as a list of the hundred best books.
    Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. (1841–1935)

The great actors are the luminous ones. They are the great conductors of the stage.
    Minnie Maddern Fiske (1865–1932)

They sat together halfway up a cliff
In a small niche let into it, the girl
Brightly, as if a star played on the place,
    Paul darkly, like her shadow.
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)

... the generation of the 20’s was truly secular in that it still knew its theology and its varieties of religious experience. We are post-secular, inventing new faiths, without any sense of organizing truths. The truths we accept are so multiple that honesty becomes little more than a strategy by which you manage your tendencies toward duplicity.
    Ann Douglas (b. 1942)

Modern women are squeezed between the devil and the deep blue sea, and there are no lifeboats out there in the form of public policies designed to help these women combine their roles as mothers and as workers.
    Sylvia Ann Hewitt (20th century)

You should look straight at a film; that’s the only way to see one. Film is not the art of scholars but of illiterates.
    Werner Herzog (b. 1942)
