Juniper Networks, Inc. is an information technology and computer networking products multinational company, founded in 1996. Juniper has its headquarters situated in Sunnyvale, California. The company designs and sells Internet Protocol network products and services. Juniper was founded by Pradeep Sindhu, Dennis Ferguson, and Bjorn Liencres in February 1996. The company was subsequently reincorporated in Delaware on March 15, 1998 and went public on June 25, 1999.

Juniper did not acquire a company for the first three years of its existence. In November 1999, Juniper acquired Layer Five, an intellectual property design firm. The company's US$4 billion acquisition of NetScreen Technologies is its largest purchase. NetScreen had acquired Neoteris before this acquisition. Unisphere, before the Juniper acquisition, initially comprised three other key networking equipment manufacturers: Redstone Communications, Argon Networks, Castle Networks. Siemens had bought Castle Networks for $300 million in 1999 and then combined it with two other acquisitions to form the Unisphere Networks. Before Unisphere's sale to Juniper, Siemens bought back the Castle portion of Unisphere to form its own subsidiary. Most of the companies acquired by Juniper are based in the United States. Juniper made the majority of its acquisitions in 2005. Most of the acquired companies are related to computer networking and associated products. Apart from the complete acquisition of the other companies, Juniper also bought the intellectual property of Nexsi Systems in May 2002. US-based Proxy Networks, Inc., based in Boston, Massachusetts, a unit of de Anda Capital LLC, acquired the Proxy remote control software product line of Juniper Networks in 2006. Proxy Networks has assumed responsibility for the continued development, marketing, sales and support of the Proxy product family, which Juniper acquired as part of its purchase of Funk Software.
