Ferries

Before the building of the major bridges, a number of ferries existed in Bern to carry passengers and cargo across the Aar. Two remain in service:

  • The Reichenbach ferry (46°59′27″N 7°27′02″E / 46.9907°N 7.4505°E / 46.9907; 7.4505 (Reichenbach ferry)) is a cable ferry established in 1743. It links the tip of the Enge peninsula to Reichenbach Castle in Zollikofen.
  • The Zehndermätteli ferry (46°58′49.5″N 7°26′30″E / 46.980417°N 7.44167°E / 46.980417; 7.44167 (Zehndermätteli ferry)) is a cable ferry linking the Enge peninsula to Bremgarten.
