Lisburn Railway Station - Current Building

Current Building

It has been renovated, with a new waiting area on platform 1, new toilets and vending machines. addition, on platforms 2 and 3, a coffee shop operates on weekday mornings, to accommodate commuters travelling towards Belfast. To make the station more accessible, lifts have been installed on each platform.

In addition to Lisburn being a stop off on the Bangor to Portadown line, platform 3 is used in peak times for an extra service - Lisburn to Bangor - and stops at all halts between here and Great Victoria Street. After calling at Belfast Central these services operate semi-fast to Bangor calling at only Holywood and Bangor West. Platform 2 is used for the express, non-stop service to Great Victoria Street. This means journey times between Lisburn and Great Victoria Street are reduced to only 11 minutes at peak times, which has attracted many more commuters than before. Despite the timetable stating the time between the two station non-stop as 11 minutes, some trains can achieve the journey in as little as 8 minutes; an average speed of around 60 mph.

Famous quotes containing the words current and/or building:

A man is a little thing whilst he works by and for himself, but, when he gives voice to the rules of love and justice, is godlike, his word is current in all countries; and all men, though his enemies are made his friends and obey it as their own.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

We have our little theory on all human and divine things. Poetry, the workings of genius itself, which, in all times, with one or another meaning, has been called Inspiration, and held to be mysterious and inscrutable, is no longer without its scientific exposition. The building of the lofty rhyme is like any other masonry or bricklaying: we have theories of its rise, height, decline and fall—which latter, it would seem, is now near, among all people.
    Thomas Carlyle (1795–1881)
