Linyanti Constituency - Traditional Authorities

Traditional Authorities

Linyanti is the only constituency in the region with two chiefs: Chief Mayuni of the Mafwe proper and chief Shufu of the Bayeyi. Over decades chief Mamili has been claiming authority in the constituency by this has drastically changed after the Bayeyi declared themselves an independent tribe in 1992 and the Mafwe proper divorced from them in 1994. Now chief Mamili has no authority over the Bayeyi or the majority of the Mafwe.

Famous quotes containing the words traditional and/or authorities:

There are two kinds of fathers in traditional households: the fathers of sons and the fathers of daughters. These two kinds of fathers sometimes co-exist in one and the same man. For instance, Daughter’s Father kisses his little girl goodnight, strokes her hair, hugs her warmly, then goes into the next room where he becomes Son’s Father, who says in a hearty voice, perhaps with a light punch on the boy’s shoulder: “Goodnight, Son, see ya in the morning.”
    Letty Cottin Pogrebin (20th century)

Our memories are card indexes consulted and then returned in disorder by authorities whom we do not control.
    Cyril Connolly (1903–1974)
