Lindsay Hoyle - Diana, Princess of Wales Tributes

Diana, Princess of Wales Tributes

In the days after her death in August 1997, Mr Hoyle led calls called for a new national children's hospital to be built as a memorial to Diana, Princess of Wales.

Mr Hoyle said: "Diana loved children and her work for and on behalf of the sick and afflicted earned her unparalleled respect around the world. What better way for the nation to show our love and respect than to build a new national children's hospital in her name."

His father, former long serving MP and now Lord Hoyle, said "What a jolly good idea, I will certainly support that,"

A few days later Mr Hoyle wrote to airport operator BAA, operators of London’s Heathrow, urging them to change the airport’s name to Diana, Princess of Wales Airport.

Mr Hoyle said: "This would be an ideal way to keep Diana's name constantly in people's minds the world over. It would be a marvellous working tribute to her for her name to be associated in the years ahead with international travel."

The children’s hospital was not built and London’s main airport is still called Heathrow.
