Lindale Mill - Closing of The Mill

Closing of The Mill

The mill closed on September 24, 2001 . The closing occurred due to cheaper labor overseas, dealing a blow to the economy of the Lindale community. The new owners allowed the star to still hang between the two smoke stacks during the Christmas Holidays since it was such a big part of Lindale's history. The mill has since been sold once more to its current owners, a family from Seattle Washington. The star is now hung on top of Eden Mountain in Lindale between two power poles, to continue the tradition. The mill is slowly being torn down and cleaned up. Both of the three story structures has been torn down to sell the valuable century old brick and timber. Plans are currently underway to open up a small to medium scale commercial mushroom farm growing Silver Oyster Mushrooms and a few other varieties. The operation is being administered by Atlanta Gourmet Mushroom, a company based in Atlanta, GA.

Famous quotes containing the words closing and/or mill:

    At closing time would go
    In waders and peaked cap
    Into the showery dark,
    A dole-kept breadwinner
    But a natural for work.
    Seamus Heaney (b. 1939)

Mathematics may be compared to a mill of exquisite workmanship, which grinds your stuff of any degree of fineness; but nevertheless, what you get out depends upon what you put in; and as the grandest mill in the world will not extract wheat- flour from peascods, so pages of formulae will not get a definite result out of loose data.
    Thomas Henry Huxley (1825–95)
