Lincolnshire Co-operative - History

History

Lincolnshire Co-operative was founded as Lincoln Co-operative Society in 1861, inspired by Gainsborough joiner Thomas Parker. The Society was concentrated in the city of Lincoln and surrounding villages. In recent years, it has expanded into county areas such as Grimsby and Cleethorpes. It does not extend into South Kesteven, which is covered by the Anglia Regional Co-operative Society (based in Peterborough), and the former Greater Nottingham Co-operative Society (now part of the Co-operative Group). It does, however, trade in Newark and Nottinghamshire.

The Society celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2011.
