Lincoln Motion Picture Company

Lincoln Motion Picture Company

The Lincoln Motion Picture Company was an American film production company founded by the Johnson brothers in 1915 in Omaha, Nebraska; it was incorporated in 1916 in Los Angeles, California. Among the first organized black filmmakers, it became the first producer of so-called "race movies". The company stated its purpose was to "encourage black pride" while upholding the social order of the period. It wanted to correct the distortions portrayed in white films while accurately depicting black reality and fostering a positive black image. Lincoln Motion Picture Company produced mostly family-oriented pictures in its three shorts and two feature-length films.

Famous quotes containing the words lincoln, motion, picture and/or company:

The government will support you to the utmost of its ability, which is neither more nor less than it has done and will do for all commanders.
    —Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865)

We must not suppose that, because a man is a rational animal, he will, therefore, always act rationally; or, because he has such or such a predominant passion, that he will act invariably and consequentially in pursuit of it. No, we are complicated machines; and though we have one main spring that gives motion to the whole, we have an infinity of little wheels, which, in their turns, retard, precipitate, and sometime stop that motion.
Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (1694–1773)

A good picture is equivalent to a good deed.
    Vincent Van Gogh (1853–1890)

If it were not for the company of fools, a witty man would often be greatly at a loss.
François, Duc De La Rochefoucauld (1613–1680)
