State Titles
Lincoln High School has been very successful in recent years in the athletic department. The have boasted six state titles since 2003 and four state runner-up positions. In 1996 the Lincoln cheerleaders won their first state recognition, coming home with a state runner-up trophy. In 2002 the cheerleaders once again compteted in the state tournament and came home with a state title, they then went on a three-year winning stint from 2005-2007 finishing state runner-up in 2008, losing to Harrison County rival Liberty. The Lincoln baseball team has finished with two state titles: in 2003, and most recently in 2009. They beat 2008 state runner-up Point Pleasant by a score of 6-2 to clinch that game. The boy's basketball team also finished state runner-up once in 2004 losing in one of only two boys' basketball state championship games in West Virginia history to go to overtime by a score of 52-51. Lincoln's girl's basketball team has also finished state runner-up twice in both 2008 and 2009 losing both times to the same opponent Summers County High School. In 1979, Lincoln's second year in existence, the Varsity Football team under Coach Larry Burner finished the regular season with a 9-1 record ranked 7th in AAA, losing only to unbeaten Bridgeport 28-14. Led by a stingy defense that allowed an average of only 7 points a game, they recorded 4 shutouts. The team met Bridgeport in the first round of the playoffs, where they lost again to the eventual state champion Indians. The 1979 football team's final ranking of 5th in Class AAA is the school's highest football ranking ever. Lincoln's wrestling team has had success the past few years as well. In 2010/2011 school year the team had 9 wrestlers go to states with Jacob Hyre placing 6th in the 112 lb weight class. In 2011/2012, 7 wrestlers went to States and Tyler Jones placed 4th in the 170 lb weight class, which is Lincolns highest placement. Alex West won the 106 lb championship at Regionals, which is Lincoln's only first place title for that contest. Austin Weaver and Tyler Jones entered the Century Club along with Jacob Hyre,which means 100 plus career wins.
