Letharia Vulpina - Habitat

Habitat

L. vulpina prefers to grow in high elevations, just above the tree line in the Pacific Northest. It is often abundant on exposed branches that have lost their bark. In old, moist forests it is typically found in drier areas. This species has an intermediate air pollution sensitivity. In the Rocky Mountains, letharia species are found in ponderosa forests at the prairie-forest boundary at relatively low elevations though medium and high elevation douglas fir and lodgepole pine forests.

Famous quotes containing the word habitat:

Nature is the mother and the habitat of man, even if sometimes a stepmother and an unfriendly home.
    John Dewey (1859–1952)

Neither moral relations nor the moral law can swing in vacuo. Their only habitat can be a mind which feels them; and no world composed of merely physical facts can possibly be a world to which ethical propositions apply.
    William James (1842–1910)
