Leon Punch - Early Life

Early Life

Punch was born in Inverell in 1928, the son of Thomas Sydney Punch, a local Doctor, and was educated at Inverell High School and then later at The King's School, Parramatta. Upon graduating he worked on his family's properties from 1947 to 1959 at Jerrys Plains and Barraba. It was here that he first entered politics in 1956 when he was elected as a Councillor on Barraba Shire Council, on which he served until he resigned to enter the NSW parliament in 1959. On 15 September 1960 he married Suzette Meyers and together had two sons.

Famous quotes containing the words early life, early and/or life:

... goodness is of a modest nature, easily discouraged, and when much elbowed in early life by unabashed vices, is apt to retire into extreme privacy, so that it is more easily believed in by those who construct a selfish old gentleman theoretically, than by those who form the narrower judgments based on his personal acquaintance.
George Eliot [Mary Ann (or Marian)

To be candid, in Middlemarch phraseology, meant, to use an early opportunity of letting your friends know that you did not take a cheerful view of their capacity, their conduct, or their position; and a robust candour never waited to be asked for its opinion.
George Eliot [Mary Ann (or Marian)

There mark what ills the scholar’s life assail,
Toil, envy, want, the patron, and the gaol.
    Samuel Johnson (1709–1784)
