The 2nd Florida Regiment was originally composed of ten companies as follows: Alachua Guards, Alachua County (Company B), Captain Lew Williams; Columbia Rifles, Columbia County (Company C), Captain Walter R. Moore; Leon Rifles, Leon County (Company D), Captain T. W. Brevard, Jr.; Hammock Guards, Marion County (Company E), Captain John D. Hopkins; Gulf State Guards, Jackson County (Company F), Captain James F. McClellan; St. Johns Greys, St. Johns County (Company G), Captain J. J. Daniels; St. Augustine Rifles, Putnam County (Company H), Captain John W. Starke; Hamilton Blues, Hamilton County (Company I), Captain Henry J. Stewart; Davis Guards, Nassau County (Company K), Captain George W. Call; Madison Rangers, Madison County (Company L), Captain W. P. Pillans.
