Leigh Valentine was born Leigh Ann Middleton in Des Moines, Iowa to Dr. Robert Middleton and Mary Shuman Middleton. Robert Middleton was a surgeon and family physician and Mary was a manager with Stanley Home Products. Mary's position with Stanley Home Products brought about the family's move to St. Louis, Missouri when Leigh was 5 years old.
