Famous quotes containing the words left, democratic and/or front:

She was poor, but she was honest,
    Victim of the squire’s whim:
First he loved her, then he left her,
And she lost her honest name.
—Unknown. She Was Poor but She Was Honest (l. 1–4)

There is a limit to the application of democratic methods. You can inquire of all the passengers as to what type of car they like to ride in, but it is impossible to question them as to whether to apply the brakes when the train is at full speed and accident threatens.
    Leon Trotsky (1879–1940)

To hell with reality! I want to die in music, not in reason or in prose. People don’t deserve the restraint we show by not going into delirium in front of them. To hell with them!
    Louis-Ferdinand Céline (1894–1961)
