Ledger Award

The Ledger Awards have been organised to 'acknowledge excellence in Australian comic art and publishing.' Named after pioneering Australian cartoonist Peter Ledger (1945–1994), the awards were first held in 2005 to help promote and focus attention on Australian creators and their projects, both in Australia and overseas. The awards were held annually and announced online on or around Australia Day, 26 January.

The Ledger Awards are a fully independent initiative and are non-profit. The Awards have no affiliations or links with organisations, businesses or other parties. The Awards are presented under the auspices of LitterArtsy, a non-profit coalition of creators, publishers and web sites promoting literacy, creativity, craft and excellence through comics and sequential art.

The Ledger Awards commenced in 2004 and ran until 2007. In 2010 it was announced that a new Ledger Awards Organising Committee was recently formed and held an inaugural meeting, with a view to the awards being re-established in 2011.

Famous quotes containing the words ledger and/or award:

Life is constantly providing us with new funds, new resources, even when we are reduced to immobility. In life’s ledger there is no such thing as frozen assets.
    Henry Miller (1891–1980)

The award of a pure gold medal for poetry would flatter the recipient unduly: no poem ever attains such carat purity.
    Robert Graves (1895–1985)
